Free MRV Masterclasses To Alleviate Confusion at Posidonia 2016

01/06/2016

Emissions verification company Verifavia is to host free-to-attend masterclasses at their exhibitor booth during the Posidonia International Shipping Exhibition being held in Athens, Greece between 6-10 June. The company’s hope for the seminars is that they inform and support those seeking to better understand the European Union’s (EU) Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) regulation and how they can ensure operational compliance.

Under the MRV Regulation, ships exceeding 5,000 GT that operate in the EU have until 2017 to prepare plans to monitor and report their carbon emissions and transport work.

As the technical details of the regulation are already agreed at working group level, ship operators have the necessary information in order to start the MRV process today. However, many require guidance to fully understand the requirements of the regulation as a misunderstanding exists about what the actual regulation means.

In order to alleviate confusion, Verifavia has identified four key areas of concern; “what is classed as a voyage”, “which emissions sources are included or excluded”, “the differences between the four allowable monitoring methods” and “the various key deadlines ship owners must adhere to.”

The free masterclasses at Posidonia 2016 will be delivered by experts from Verifavia Shipping and are available for all ship owners, operators and ICT solutions providers.
