​How to comply with ETS?

2009

By 31 August 2009, airlines must submit to the competent authority the monitoring plan describing the procedures in place to monitor and report the aircraft emissions.

In order to be eligible to receive free allowances, airlines must also submit by 31 August 2009 the monitoring plan describing the procedures in place to monitor and report the tonne-kilometer data (payload)

Monitoring plans must stricly follow the Monitoring and Reporting Guidelines (MRG) as well as the national regulations of the administering state.

Both monitoring plans must be approved by the competent authority before the end of 2009.
 

2010

Airlines must monitor emissions according to their approved monitoring plan each year starting from 2010.

Airlines must monitor payload in 2010 only according to their approved monitoring plan in order to be eligible to receive free allowances for the first and second trading periods (2012 and 2013-2020).
 

2011

Reports of aircraft emissions and tonne-kilometer data must be verified by an independent verifier at the beginning of 2011.

The verified annual reports for emissions and tonne-kilometer data must be submitted before 31 March 2011 to the competent authority.
 

2012

2011 annual emissions report must be verified by an independent verifier and submitted no later than 31 march 2012 (28 February in Spain).

Aircraft operators must open a registry account. Aircraft operators must submit a Phase 3 Annual Emissions Monitoring Plan (AEM Plan) for approval.
 

2013

Beginning of Phase 3. Operators must submit a 2012 annual emissions report by 31 March 2013 (28 February for operators reporting to Spain).

Operators must surrender allowances corresponding to their verified 2012 emissions by 30 April 2013. Back to all F.A.Q.
