What is a registry account and how to open one?

The Union Registry is an online database hosted and managed by the European Commission. It operates in a similar same way to an internet bank account, and records allowance allocations for aircraft operators, annual verified emissions, transaction history of allowance transfers and surrenders of allowances.

All aircraft operators must to open a registry account with the Union Registry in order to compy with the EU ETS as the allowances that correspond to the annual emissions must be surrendered every year through the Registry by 30 April of the following year.

Operators reporting to the United Kingdom

Aircraft operators reporting to the United Kingdom need to open a registry account with the Union registry so that they can receive their free allocations by February 2012. A registry account is like a bank account. After it is set up, you will be able to manage it online, receive your free allowances, transfer the allowances you purchase and surrender the allowances that correspond to your 2012 emissions by 30 April 2013.

The application process to open a registry account for operators reporting to the UK has started. Please download and read carefully the document below. Please note that the deadline for application is 31 January 2012. For any question, please contactetregistryhelp@environment-agency.gov.uk

Operators reporting to France

The process is open for aircraft operators reporting to France. The French GHG registry is held by the Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations (CDC). The CDC is responsible for managing this system and has to open an account for you in the Union registry. For this purpose, aircraft operators need to complete and sign the application form and return it before 4 January 2012 to the CDC by mail together with all supporting documents (original or certified true copies).

Operators that did not submit a verified tonne-kilometer or who do now want to receive their free allowances have an extended deadline to submit the application form (31 January 2012).

Please download and read carefully all attached documents. For all questions and communication, please use this email address: RegistreFrancais-GES@caissedesdepots.fr
