How is the offsetting requirement calculated?

An aircraft operator’s offset requirement is calculated by the following formula:

Example of calculation of an aircraft operator's offset requirement for the year 2031:

For the year 2031, aircraft operators should apply at least a 20% individual rate. In our example, we, therefore, use a 20% individual rate and an 80% sectoral rate. Furthermore, we will use the figures from examples of calculation of the sector's growth factor and the aircraft operator's growth factor.

The offset requirement for our example aircraft operator for the year 2031 is 1,891,694 tonnes of CO2. The aircraft operator would then be required to purchase 1,891 carbon units on the carbon market.
