What are the main different types of cancer suspected to be related to radioactive exposure?
There are five different types of cancer suspected to be related to radioactive exposure:
- Malignant Melanoma (skin cancer): A study among British Airways pilots showed an increased incidence of Malignant Melanoma (Skin cancer) by a factor of six.
- Blood cancer: A Canadian study among 2740 Air Canada pilots reported in the American Journal of Epidemiology showed an increased incidence of Myeloid Leukemia (Blood cancer) by a factor of four, and of Astrocytoma (brain tumor/cancer) by a factor of two compared to the general population.
- Leukemia: Four times the normal rate. From the experience in Hiroshima and Nakasaki it has been proved that this type of cancer is related to radioactive radiation.
- Prostate cancer: There are speculations of whether this type of cancer may be caused by electromagnetic radiation from cockpit instruments and weather radar. But it is a fact that the above mentioned studies revealed a significantly higher incidence of prostate cancer.Breast cancer: A Scandinavian study showed an increased incidence of breast cancer among female flight attendants. A similar Californian study showed a 30% higher incidence of breast cancer. The latest study reveals disturbing news: Female cabin attendants who have flown for more than five years have an incidence 400% higher than cabin attendants who have flown less than five years.
