Brussels rules on reporting shipborne CO2 emissions come into force

Julien Dufour is chief executive at Verifavia, an approved verification firm established when the aviation industry was forced to comply with European emissions trading scheme rules. His company is now focusing on shipping and its CO2 reporting needs.

There are a lot of common points between how the aviation industry and shipping have to collate data, he said, but there are also some distinct differences.

One of the biggest distinctions is how cargo carried will be reported, with this this  detail yet to be developed by the ESSF. The regulation specifies that reporting must differentiate between port emissions and voyage emissions, as well as recording any part of a voyage in ice. [...]
