Navigating CORSIA and EU ETS
29 November 2016, Madrid
Venue: Hotel Miguel Angel, Madrid, Spain
Date: 29 November 2016
ICAO has agreed on a first-ever global market-based measure, consisting on an offsetting emissions scheme called ”CORSIA” by which aircraft operators will have to offset international emissions above 2020 level, in order to keep carbon neutral growth from that year. Already in 2014, the scope of the EU ETS was temporarily reduced to only include intra-European flights to facilitate the GMBM discussions in ICAO, given that the original scope of EU ETS had faced significant international opposition in 2012. Now, the EU will undertake a review on the scope of the EU ETS, in the light of ICAO’s outcome, to determine whether the scheme reverts back to its original full scope from January 2017, as the current scope lasts until the end of 2016.
The workshop will bring together policy makers, authorities, aircraft operators and carbon market experts to learn the details of CORSIA, understand the current evolving and uncertain scenario with EU ETS, evaluate its impact on aircraft operators and carbon markets and discuss the challenges ahead.
