VERIFAVIA verifies Hamad International Airport and Kansai Airports

13/12/2016

Verifavia is happy to announce a successful independent carbon emissions verification of the Airports Council International (ACI) Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) of Hamad International Airport (HIA), Kansai International Airport (KIX) and Osaka International Airport (ITM).

Verifavia has previously verified Hamad International Airport for the Level 1 'Mapping' and the airport had decided to renew its accreditation in 2016 as well.

Hamad International Airport has announced a long-term commitment to tackle climate change and reduce carbon emissions and is the only airport to have included carbon emissions generated since its very first day of operations, in April 2014. It has ambitious plans to progress to higher levels of accreditation and to demonstrate an approach to managing climate change that compares favorably with other world leading airports.

For the first time in Japan, following the independent verification, Kansai and Osaka International airports are now accredited to the Level 2 'Reduction' of the Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) programme.

On December 6, 2016, the international airport organization, Airports Council International (ACI), announced that both Kansai (KIX) and Osaka (ITM) International Airports have been certified as airports which manage and reduce carbon emissions with the objective of global warming prevention.
